The troublesome original release, named for the problematic first brew day which hugely emphasised its hop bitterness. It's matured and evolved nicely over the years. Limited Release 39 is a Double IPA brewed with a crisp, lean, pale malt base and loaded to the seams with intense US and NZ hop varieties - providing punchy citrus, tropical, white grape and blueberry characters, along with a firm bitterness.

Limited Release 41 is a Fresh Hop Hazy IPA brewed with whole cone Nectaron hops grown by NZ Hops, flown across the Cook Strait and into the brewhouse with minimal delay to capture peak freshness. Juicy and fruit-forward, it delivers ripe stone fruit and tropical character with saturated hop oils and a smooth, low bitterness.

The raptor family includes a surprisingly diverse collection of birds of prey and their kin, and stretches to include some of their fiercer ancestors from the land before time. Pale Ale can feel like a similarly broad category, but this one is very much of the more assertive kind. If the sky is clear and cool, and you're very lucky, you might witness a sundog: apparitions that accompany the true sun, an atmospheric trick of light and ice. Parrotdog's own Sundog, a Pilsner starring the vivid passionfruit and white wine notes of New Zealand hops, is much easier to find, but just as crisp and bright.

A good watchdog is the perfect companion, a relaxed and friendly presence but always alert and attentive. It's a rare mix of traits but Parrotdog's brewers have taught a similar trick to this Watchdog, a refreshingly non-alcoholic IPA, with a pale malt backbone and lively hop flavours of citrus and stonefruit, but no bite.
